A creative gift of memories, moments and much more

- Wellington Makwakwa

THE intimacy of art will be on display in Empangeni when artist and Unizulu drama lecturer Gift Marovatsanga showcases his diverse collection of work for the Zululand audience.

The playwright, director, instrumentalist and visual artist will display his various pieces as part of A Solo Arts Exhibition at Empangeni Museum from today (Thursday) to 31 August.

All his artwork, which includes paintings, will be on display for the general public to view, and those interested can purchase them at the venue.

"It’s a collection of my work I want the public to view and my theme is Memories, Moments and More. This has been my dream for a long time and I decided my birthday would be the perfect time to showcase my work

"The work I will showcase has been inspired by memories of childhood, and moments that shaped and defined who I am as both an artist and a person.

"My pieces are about reliving memories from the past which defines the journey of where I have come from, where I am now and how that informs the future I envision for myself, as well as the legacy I would like to leave as I come of age," said Gift.

As part of the celebration, Gift will also display another art form when he hosts Mr Gee and The Zululand Afro Jazz Band on Sunday 10 July.

The Sunday jazz session will showcase his musical ability and arrangements. The music session will also feature other home-grown musos such as Bro Chris, Nomafu, Mfundo, Thabiso, Winnie Love-K, Yves Devakca, Kenny G, and with Ntosh as the event MC.
