NURSE KILLER still at large
ONE whose daily labour of love was to care for others, died the most heartless death last week.
The brutal murder last Wednesday of Netcare The Bay Hospital staff nurse, Nomkhosi Zungu (35), allegedly by her boyfriend, further highlighted the ongoing prevalence of genderbased violence in the area.
Reports indicate that, after she had returned home from work, Nomkhosi was stabbed and her throat was slit, leaving her to breathe her last on her bed.
The incident occurred at the Mzingwenya Reserve Chili cottages outside eSikhaleni.
According to police investigations, the suspect allegedly phoned Nomkhosi’s sister to tell her he was going to murder Nomkhosi and take his own life.
King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson, Captain Siyanda Shangase, said the suspect is still at large.
"A murder case was registered at eSikhaleni SAPS. The deceased was found lying on her bed facing upward and her throat was cut. A kitchen knife was found next to her on the bed," Shangase said.
MEC for Social Development in KZN, Nonhlanhla Khoza, has urged society to stand up to protect women from such atrocities.
"We condemn this murder in the strongest terms and appeal to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the alleged killer to contact the police," she said.
"It is disturbing that our province continues to experience such atrocities perpetrated against innocent and defenceless women.
"It is very hard to comprehend what leads to this kind of violence in communities. How can a person murder the very same woman that he claims to love?"
Khoza urged women to quickly leave toxic relationships and protect themselves from heartless killers.
