HAILING from Gingindlovu in the south of Zululand is Kiara Matthew who is ready to bring the coveted Zee TV Miss India South Africa title home.

The 19-year-old beauty queen is a finalist in the pageant, which is set to take place on 3 December at the Durban Jewish Centre.

Strong-willed, enthusiastic, and empowered are the three words that best describe her.

Kiara hopes to make a difference in the lives of many young women. “I have had many setbacks over the past few years but I haven’t let that get the better of me. I’ve pushed through all the obstacles in my life, and even my minor accomplishments. I am proud of achieving them.

"I intend to study law because it will give me the opportunity to fight for many people who are held responsible for things that aren’t their fault. Helping as many people as I can is my goal in life, and going into a profession that will enhance my dreams is everything I desire,” she said.

Growing up, Kiara was shy and reserved, but after the passing of her father, she knew he would not have wanted her to be the isolated and shy person she was.

Through this pageant, she hopes to break out of her shell and inspire others to do the same.

“The pageant has been nothing but amazing so far, and the date changing to 3 December gives us girls more time to prepare mentally and emotionally.’

“I extend my gratitude to everyone in my life who has supported me, and for helping me through this process. Thank you, to the community of Gingindlovu for being so invested in the pageant and for being such great encouragers. A huge thank you also to my family for everything they have done," said Kiara.
