WHEN you first meet actress, writer, choreographer, director, model and casting coach Nokulunga ‘Noofah’ Ntuli (35), her love for the arts and community is unmistakable.

Before she even speaks, the sparkle in her eyes gives away her passion and love for developing young minds and inspiring change in her community.

Her bright smile as she relayed her life story lit up the room and filled it with positive energy.

This beautiful, bubbly, overall performer born in the rural heart of eNgodini but now settled in eSikhaleni, showed signs of artistry at a very young age.

While she was at Mzingwenya Primary School, Noofah showed incredible skills when she started drawing and writing stories.

“I was always fascinated with anything in the arts, and I was lucky to have teachers who noticed and nutured my talents. Some of those drawings were published in our school magazine,” she said.

It wasn’t long before Noofah joined creative groups, such as choral and drama clubs, but her love for the arts grew even more when she started schooling at Sikhulangemfundo School in eSikhaleni.

“As children, we placed some great theatre shows and created dance routines, and it was then that I realised it was something I truly wanted to do for the rest of my life.

When Noofah moved on to high school at Tisand Technical School, she joined a dance group led by actress and former presenter Dumo Cebekhulu.

Not only did she get the taste of a bigger stage but decided then that she wanted to study drama

Sadly, her dreams were cut short when she did not get support from her father.

“He didn’t see any future in the arts, and that’s why I ended up enrolling for an information technology qualification," Noofah explained. But while studying at Durban University of Technology, she joined a drama group as an extra activity and found a way to juggle her studies and her passion.

Owing to her hard work and zeal for the arts, Noofah was appointed for several shows and worked with some of the best in the theatre and TV industry.

She started working with Zakes Bantwini, Mthandeni Mbambo, Mageza, and others.

Years later, Noofah is now a community leader and started her own arts group where she teaches young children drama, dance and other arts.

She is also a communications manager for Isiko LikaZulu – an Ngwelezana arts group that nurtures young talents and gives them platforms to shine.

But her highest moment was being part of Soweto TV series Imizwa – The Feelings, and directing a short film by Zamani Mhlongo and Themba Thango, titled Ingoduso Yami.

During the course of her career, Noofah has worked with giants in the industry, such as Simphiwe Majozi of Uzalo, Neliswe Sibiya of Durban Gen, maskandi giant Khuzani, radio guru Tshathugodo, Magcwabe Imbongi, and others

Her dream is to create a local TV production that will groom local artists, and produce religious content and spread positive messages.

“We don’t have movies based on Christianity, and I would like to write more about God and use that platform to spread His word," she explained.
