A spectacle of art in Zini

-

Over the past six years, Mtunzini Rotary's Art in the Shade has entertained, delighted and fed the creative souls of local art enthusiasts.

Without fail, this annual fundraiser has showcased the best art to be found at the best possible prices.

And true to form, it's back on 28, 29 and 30 October.

The festival opens on Friday, 28 October from 1pm to 5pm, on the Saturday from 9am to 5pm and on the Sunday from 9am until noon.

A colourful and fun event, the exhibition will be inside Mtunzini Town Hall, with food and drink stalls outside under the big old shady trees.

As usual, art will be evident in everything, from fun events to the magnificent art pieces being exhibited.

On the stage of the town hall, art workshops will be held for all to participate.

Outside, big canvases will be set up for aspirant artists and even the cake stall will have kids' cake decorating classes. Food and drink stalls will cater for all tastes with a braai stall on the Saturday.

Over the years, Art in the Shade has lured some of the best artists and crafters in the region to exhibit.

"Depending on the amount of work done by artists through the year, we do not always have the same artists exhibiting, but every year we are amazed with the quality of art at the exhibition."

"Art in the Shade has been an inspiration to artists. Art galleries are very expensive and take huge commission from the artists, which makes this event the perfect place for buyers and enthusiasts to get magnificent art without having to break the bank," said Elize Viljoen, Mtunzini Rotary co-ordinator for the event.

Except for new original art on display, there will also be stalls where the public can sell their 'previously loved art'.

Since the previous Art in the Shade event, this has been a feature at the festival and has given visitors the opportunities to pick up incredible finds for a fraction of what it originally cost.

There will, for instance, be a few canvases from the well-known artist Michael Albertyn.

If readers have any old art pieces they want to sell at Art in the Shade, they are welcome to contact the organisers at artsintheshade@gmail. com

This year, a bumper crop of magnificent art will be on display, ranging from old favourites like Marian Mattison, Asoti Naidoo, Sue Bennet and many more, to brand new artists whose work will astound. Entrance is only R30 for all three days and children under 12 get in for free. All proceeds go towards projects supported by the club.
