Zululand bodybuilder to represent SA abroad

- Mbuso Kunene

NJABULO ‘Lemon’ Hlatshwayo from eSikhaleni appeals to good Samaritans in the region to help him get to Spain next month for the world bodybuilding championships.

After his outstanding performance at the SA champs earlier this year, Hlatshwayo paved the way to fly the country’s flag in Spain at the world champs in the 85kg category.

The championships are set to take place between 3 and 7 November.

His fondness for bodybuilding was cultivated in 2018, during his first year of studying at the University of Zululand.

“I was very motivated when I saw other young men who were already working out and I committed myself to reach their level," said Hlatshwayo.

“My participation in the world games will give me a chance to win a pro card, which will authorise me to participate in competitions that are of a high standard, and would open doors for me to get direct sponsorship."

The 27-year-old is determined to build a network of bodybuilding enthusiasts within the district as he is of the view that this sport is neglected.

“I encourage everyone as to the importance of exercising and eating healthy food since nowadays there are so many diseases.

“Exercising makes you respectable in society, it keeps you away from bad things as you spend most of your time at the gym, and it reduces time for focusing on drug abuse, especially among young people. And through this sport, you can put bread on the table if you work hard,” said Hlatshwayo.

For Hlatshwayo to achieve his dream of representing his region and country on the world stage, he needs to raise R20 000.

He is set to leave South Africa for Spain on 1 November.

Anyone who can help Njabulo ‘Lemon’ Hlatshwayo get to Spain can contact him on 082 6470494.
