At informative antenatal class
EXPECTANT parents enjoyed an interactive, free-of-charge antenatal class at Melomed Private Hospital; the proud initiative of Melobabes, the hospital's maternity and infant units.
There was an outstanding response to Saturday's class from first-time parents as well as those who have experienced the journey of bringing a new life into the world.
With or without experience, pregnancy is never easy, and caring for your bundle of joy can come with uncertainty.
According to the hospital manager’s PA Louette Munusamy, this is precisely why they offer these antenatal classes at no cost.
“These classes are going to help prepare you for pregnancy and childbirth, as well as caring for your newborn," she said.
Led by Melomed residents Dr Ntsako Nkanyane (OBGYN) and Dr Karabo Seake (paediatrician), who shared on the importance of mental healthcare during pregnancy, the moms- and dads-to-be took part in exercises, fun games and competitions.
Mental healthcare is crucial in the development of the baby and can impact the neonatal stage," said Dr Ntsako.
"Happy mommy is happy baby, so take care of yourself during this time."
Expectant parents were given the platform to ask the experts questions and bust myths surrounding infant care.
The interactive session also delved into child-related incidents that can be stressful for both experienced and new parents, such as fevers, choking and seizures.
There was also a CPR demonstration by KwaZulu Private Ambulance.
Melomed Private Hospital encourages expectant parents to take part in the next antenatal class, the date of which will be announced shortly.
