FINAL preparations are under way and a wide variety of vendors are raring to go ahead of the Solid Ground Christmas Country Market, set for Saturday, 5 November.
With Covid putting a halt on proceedings for the past two years, the annual market, which is one of the highlights on the Zululand calendar, promises to be bigger and better this year.
Set on a magnificent property among sugar cane and macadamias on the R102 between Empangeni and Felixton, the market, held between 9am and 3pm, offers the best in handmade, artisanal and homemade goods.
“The market is all about serving, fun, community and making a living (for the vendors),” said market convenor Debbie Lane.
“We have selected 78 vendors, selling goods ranging from clothes, jewellery, art, fresh-cut flowers, lush fresh produce, home decor, swimming costumes, bespoke lingerie, skin products, macramé, children’s clothes, stationery, among others, as well as 20 food/drink related stalls. You will not go hungry or thirsty!
"Children are also invited to write a letter to Santa at the Cre8 stall, telling him whether they have been ‘naughty or nice’. Each wish list letter will be WhatsApped to the parents,” said Lane. The focus this year is also to include as many local craftsmen/women as possible.
“The highlight for us is the inclusion of some vendors from the popular Esikhawini Market. I hope this can develop into something more regular for the vendors and that it will grow into a rewarding event for the eSikhaleni vendors on a monthly basis. It’s a start, but we are extremely excited to be partnering with them,” said Lane.
Parents can also shop in peace as the Felixton College Grade 11 girls will be supervising the playground for toddlers and children aged 2-12, at just R10 per hour.
The market entry fee is R10 for adults, and kids under 12 go in free.
