Celebrating HERITAGE through ART
he spirit of the late Zulu king, His Majesty Cetshwayo kaMpande will come alive this December at the King Cetshwayo Heritage Festival.
The festival is set to be held on Friday, 9 and Saturday, 10 December in Port Durnford.
Spearheaded by Bhekani Ndwandwe of Zwide 247 Events and Entertainment, the festival will kick off with a heritage lecture under the theme, Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu on the Friday at the Thusong Service Centre sportsground from 10am.
Proceedings will include traditional and church leaders. On the Saturday, there will be a music festival at the same venue from 10am, which will include some of the biggest names in the industry.
It will feature SA stars such as Mbuso Khoza and Ijadu leAfrika, Amahotella Queens, Cevuzile, Mfiliseni Magubane, as well as Satma award-winning poet Magcwabe Imbongi.
The event will also include some of the best artists from the region, including DJ Amenisto, DJ Mo, Nala Gabela, MaAfrika, Xola Musiq, Gadla, to name a few.
“King Cetshwayo is the iconic heroic figure in the history of the Zulu people, and we want to honour him.
“His history is crucial in restoring people’s pride. We are not just honouring him, but are using the event to boost the tourism sector in our district.
“This will create long- and short-term employment while stimulating the local economy and creating a platform for local artists,” said Bhekani.
The event founder also said his aim is to ensure the festival grows and becomes an annual pilgrimage that will be a key pillar of driving district tourism initiatives.
