Kelly leads the proud IEB pack at Felixton
FELIXTON College Dux of 2023, Kelly Schnell firmly kept the top spot by bagging no fewer than seven A's in the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) exams.
Kelly, who was also headgirl last year, achieved distinctions in Afrikaans, English, geography, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and science, with an overall average of 86%.
She was followed closely by her classmate Simon Scherzer with six distinctions (accounting, Afrikaans, information technology, life orientation, mathematics and science).
He achieved an additional distinction for further studies mathematics, which is separate from the IEB, and is a programme written concurrently with ISC (International Senior Certificate) advanced programme subject. Simon achieved an impressive overall average of 82%.
Both Simon and Kelly have attended Felixton College since Grade RRR, and the small but mighty class of 2023 (numbering a mere 38 in total) managed to achieve a stunning 46-distinction haul.
National stars
Other honourable mentions include Azile Hlengwa, who achieved four distinctions (accounting, Afrikaans, life orientation and mathematics) and an overall average of 79%, and Jenna Rolando who achieved three distinctions (business studies, life orientation and maths literacy) and an overall average of 81%.
Those who appeared within the top 1% of the results nationally are Stacey Lotter (life orientation) and Nomvuselelo Myeni (isiZulu).
Stacey also achieved distinctions in Afrikaans, English, life orientation and life sciences, while Nomvuselelo achieved a second distinction in life orientation.
All in all, 95% of the candidates
achieved their Bachelor Degree passes, while 5% achieved Diploma passes.
"I am thrilled that we have once again produced a group of matric pupils who all have the option of tertiary studies through their Bachelor Degree and Diploma passes," said Felixton headmaster Wayne Rademan.
"We are incredibly proud of the brilliant
marks produced by our pupils year after year - particularly in the top academic ranks.
"From a holistic aspect, it must be said that we are equally proud of each wellrounded, humble and honourable young man and woman who has passed through our classrooms and hallways during their high school career," he said.
