Super moves at local chess tournament

- Keanan Pillay

IN celebration of the 10th anniversary of King Cetshwayo Chess, a standard-rated tournament with over 160 entries was held on Saturday and Sunday at the Brackenham community hall.

Players of all ages competed, and the turnout was testament to the passion to see the sport grow in the district.

"Thank you to all the chess co-ordinators, coaches, parents, our athletes, and not least I would also like to express my appreciation for the work of our colleagues Gloria Ncube, Lungy Ndunakazi, Sandy Olivier, Lungelo Mthembu and Sibusiso Khanyile," said event co-ordinator Lisa Griffiths.

"On behalf of King Cetshwayo, I would like to pass on our big thanks to Councillor Ray Govender who provided us with the Brackenham community hall."

She was also grateful for the lunch, drinks, tables and tablecloths provided on the day.

"This is because of the kindness of Pamela and Gabriel Gounden, Mandy Michelle and her team, NRB Logistics, ASHPAK, Porky's, Malas Decor and Amutha Segadevan. We are overwhelmed with joy at the generosity we received, we appreciate you all."
