“Donostia bat bakarra munduan” (“There is only one San Sebastian and it is unique in all the world) is a verse from the famous march composed by Raimundo Sarriegui and Serafín Baroja in the nineteenth century – a march that is today a symbol of the city and is sung, accompanied by the roar of drums, to commemorate San Sebastian Day every January 20. The German watchmaking company Meistersinger laser etched that very verse into a limited edition of 10 wristwatches that went on sale exclusively at the González Larrauri Jewelry Shop and sold out quickly. Said German brand is well known for manufacturing single-hand watches which transport us back in time to the origin of watchmaking, to those sundials which used to mark the slow passage of time. The lower part of the City Edition watch’s glass sphere additionally shows the silhouette of San Sebastian’s skyline – a silhouette in which the City Hall and the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd are clearly recognizable, amongst other emblematic buildings.
At González Larrauri, they work with Swiss brands such as Ebel and Frederique Constant, and the owners travel regularly to national and international fairs in order to acquire a varied selection of jewelry from large firms and small craftsmen, their aim being to surprise with a unique style that has a piece for every moment and that fits with the informal world in which we live today while always offering maximum quality. Rubies, emeralds, diamonds, brilliant-cut gemstones, sodalites, and rose quartz set in yellow gold or silver, their passion for uniqueness and modernity has been passed down from generation to generation from the shop’s start in 1923 and to the present day. In its privileged location in the center of San Sebastian, one of the busiest places in the capital, the jewelry shop has become part of the landscape – a unique element in the makeup of the town which helps to define it as a city that well deserves that famous verse.
