Iñaki Biurrun

INTERIOR DESIGNER

-

To enter the atelier of Iñaki Biurrun in Igueldo is to take a leap of faith into the “Biurrun imagination,” a world of objects and concepts that have meaning only within that controlled chaos that is the artist’s studio. Models of cars, a toy herd of pigs, a collection of fountain pens by Montblanc, and boxes filled with porcelain fish – everything has its place in this spectacular space that offers magnificent views of the Cantabrian Sea. He doesn’t define himself as a collector but, instead, as an enthusiast of things. Thanks to his passion for transferring his ideas to his clients, he has gotten them to entrust him with all the projects they need to undertake – and to come back time and time again. The way in which he represents his concepts is with a pencil and paper, drawing.to give free rein to his creativity and skill when capturing his ideas on paper, he has built a steel table of incredible size, which is the centerpiece of his studio and which had to be brought in through the window with the help of a crane. It is at that table that he develops, depicts, and transmits his dreams – dreams that subsequently become reality.

He is a tireless worker with more than 30 years’ experience who has renovated apartments, houses, shops, and even a luxury hotel.those who wish to know what it feels like to live in a space created by Biurrun can stay at the Villa Magalean Hotel of Hondarribia,a four-star accommodation option that reflects the elegance, class, and taste effused by all his projects. In terms of the hotel’s rooms, that sense of wellbeing they have was achieved thanks to his obsession for details and a job well done; however, it’s also due to the designer’s selecting each and every one of the pieces with which the guest comes into contact: from the sheets to the sculptures that breathe life into to the hotel – many of them by the sculptor and painter Iñigo Manterola.

Five years ago, he opened a second studio in Madrid – a shop decorated like a house that he uses as a showcase for his work. Throughout these years, he has undertaken a lot of renovation projects for houses in the capital, always seeking the same thing: to recover the original details of the buildings, keeping their essence alive. In Madrid he additionally is working on a project in one of the city’s most emblematic and important buildings on a social level. At the beginning of this year, he will open a third, very special space in the center of San Sebastian, which will be used to tend to customers and friends.

Iñaki Biurrun’s weeks are divided in two: between Madrid and San Sebastian. His rise in both cities and his interest in restoring buildings of varying architectural styles are what keep him living between the two urban centers, although he also undertakes projects in other parts of the country – a true luxury for all those who dare to enter into the world of his imagination and let themselves be guided by his talent.
