Victor Goikoetxea
ARTIST
BASQUE LUXURY GOLDEN WALL is the name of the latest large-scale piece done by Víctor Goikoetxea. This is a custom piece of artwork that measures 20 m2 and which was created by the artist for the new BASQUE LUXURY headquarters. The new office’s lobby needed a striking piece to be identified with the space; thus, Goikoetxea was commissioned to create a piece that would transmit the essence of Basque luxury in an original way. His proposal was a gold thermoformed piece made up of 12 vertical sections; an impressive, wavy sculpture/painting that looks like a golden river. Measuring 5 meters high and 4 meters wide, this is the largest thermoformed piece done by the artist to date.
This piece was presented to the public at the inauguration of BASQUE LUXURY STUDIO at the end of 2018, along with other pieces by the same artist.this solo exhibition, which will remain open throughout all of 2019, is completed with a green thermoformed piece, as well as a blue one, and with a figurative oil painting entitled “Chicago,” which pays tribute to the architecture of said American city. Goikoetxea’s ties with private companies are well established: in 2016, he created the spectacular Miramart tunnel at the Paseo de la Concha of San Sebastian, financed by the company La Gula del Norte. Said company also commissioned him in 2018 to do a mural measuring 14 meters for their central offices – a mural that would immerse the viewer in an underwater world.
Various institutions have also recognized his talent: Goikoetxea has fully remodeled the Reception Room and the Plenary Hall of the San Sebastian City Hall building, he has redone the nineteenth century ornamental murals of the Central Library at the University of the Basque Country in Vitoria, and he has painted the mural that uses diverse techniques at the Torre de Santurtzi Palace House. Likewise, in 2018, the Town Council of Hernani hired him for the complete renovation of the Plenary Hall and for the creation of a historical mural to act as a focal point in said space. His work consisted of a piece measuring 45 m2 and which uses mixed techniques to represent the social, cultural, and business pillars of the town.
While the majority of his private collectors acquire his paintings and sculptures in galleries, more and more people are requesting custom, made-to-order pieces from this artist. In the wake of his last solo exhibition in Jávea, he is undertaking numerous pieces in luxury villas on the Valencian coast, even for the outside of some homes. In terms of the international sphere, goikoetxea is not limited by borders, as he has displayed his work and undertaken projects for private patrons, companies, and institutions in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, France, the USA, and Morocco. His exquisite technique in decorative painting, especially in figurative realism, his vast experience as a muralist, and his continued experimentation with new materials are the foundations for his successful career. He is nothing short of a talented individual, an individual in which we at BASQUE LUXURY have placed our full trust.
