Maider Lasa, founder of La Oveja Latxa, decided one day to share her passion for high-quality Basque cuisine with the world. Thanks to her tenacity when searching for the finest foods from local producers, she has managed to create a unique catalog of cheeses, beverages, sweets, dried fruits, canned foods, condiments, cold meats, and pâtés that she sells to all of Spain via her online store.

Many of her products have received awards at prestigious international fairs, such as the Agerre-buru cheese that she sells, named the best semi-cured sheep cheese of Spain in 2018; likewise, the Espelette pepper foie gras that she offers won a prize at the Paris International Agricultural Show and the Basmoon vodka available on her site, made with potatoes from Álava, was the winner of the 2015 gold medal for the Best Premiumvodka in the Globalvodka Masters.

Her nose for discovering unconventional foods has allowed her to add delicacies to her site, like Urruzola Txakoli Rosé Wine, made in a fourteenth-century estate at Alkiza, kiwi jam, “Gran Cru de Terroir” dark chocolate, produced by Joseba Arguiñano, as well as a Tomato and Nut with Pepper Delight made in the French Basque Country. Her latest additions also include kitchen accessories: porcelain kaikus made in Navarre (recipients used in days gone by to prepare curd and which can be used nowadays as cups), and food presentation boards that look a little like a surfboard.

Tourists who live outside of Spain and who are visiting the Basque Country can request that their purchase be delivered to the hotel where they are staying, as La Oveja Latxa works with several luxury hotels in the region, such as the Iturregi Hotel of Getaria and the newly opened Lasala Plaza of San Sebastian.

For those interested in knowing more about Basque cuisine, La Oveja Latxa makes available its spectacular Aia gastronomic society – an old, renovated farmhouse that has a cozy dining room with a fireplace and where lunches, snacks, and dinners are served for couples and groups.a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the Basque Country’s rich gastronomic culture.
