Castillo de Arteaga

-

The Arteaga Castle, located in Biscay, in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a fortress that seems to come straight out of the storybooks. Napoleon III and Eugénie de Montijo had the current palace built in 1856, when their son was named Cherished Son of Biscay, being built around the original defense tower from the thirteenth century.

This neo-gothic construction, inspired by French Gothic architecture, is currently a hotel that offers the unique experience of being able to stay in its majestic chambers. Each of its thirteen rooms are different, as they maintain their original layout and structure. One of the suites even has a private swimming pool located on the top of one of the wall’s towers.

To stay at the Arteaga Castle –one of the few hotels in the Basque Country mentioned in the prestigious Relais & Chateaux Guide– is to enter a world of privileges.and this is not only because of the experience of going back to the time of the last French monarch, but also because of its excellent gastronomic evenings that feature fresh products, because of its wine tastings in the castle’s wine cellar, and because guests are surrounded by the natural beauty of the landscape.

A few centuries ago, arteaga was a place for emperors; now, it has become an accommodation solution for those who want to feel like kings and queens. It’s a storybook castle that represents the essence of BASQUE LUXURY like none other.
