Less blues in Benidorm

- News Staff Reporter

BENIDORM'S mobility department said on Thursday that 10 blue zone parking areas in the town, affecting 1,126 parking spaces, can now be used free of charge until further notice.

A council source said that in the summer the size of the blue zone parking area is increased due to the influx of vehicles into the town, but under current rules, this increase has to be cancelled on September 30.

As from yesterday (Thursday), drivers are no longer required to pay to park in Avenida de Vicente Llorca Alós, Avenida de Xixo, Avenida Europa between Calle de Esperanto and Avenida del Meditarráneo, Calles Ibiza and Lepanto, Calle Gerona between Avenida de Europa and Avenida del Derramador, Avenida de Murcia between Avenida del Mediterráneo and Calle Gerona.

Other zones affected by the no-pay rule include Avenida de Cuenca between Avenida del Mediterráneo and Calle Ibiza, Avenida Mallorca between Avenida del Mediterráneo and Calle Gerona and on Avenida de Almería between Avenida del Mediterráneo and Calle de Lepanto.

Councillor José Ramón González de Zárate said that this year the summer increase to the blue zone parking area started 15 days later than it should have, which caused problems for residents and visitors.

To that end he has told the company that has the concession to run the parking system, Sica-Auplasa, that next year it must make sure everybody is informed ahead of time before any changes can be implemented.
