Today (Friday) we'll know if Britain remains or leaves the EU
David Cameron and his wife Samantha left their Central Methodist hall polling station in London at 10.00 yesterday (Thursday) after casting their vote in the referendum on the UK's membership in the EU.
BY the time you're reading this report, you will probably be aware of whether Britain remains in the EU or decides to 'Brexit'.
46.5 million British citizens were able to cast their vote yestersday, with polling stations open from 07.00 (UK time) until 22.00.
There were no exit polls due to the high possibility of error, so the initial results were not expected until 02.00 this morning.
Definite figures will be released at 08.00, although the official result will not be announced until noon today.
The latest poll survey published by the Evening Standard yesterday gave the Remain vote a slight lead of 52% over 48% who support Leave.
In the event of a majority of Leave votes, a new process will begin to agree on terms for a Brexit that could last between two and seven years.
Repercussions will affect thousands of expats living on the Spanish Costas - many of whom were disenfranchised from the vote over the controversial 15-year rule.
But the decision will also have a deep impact on Spanish and other EU economies (see page 21).
