ACCLAIMED restaurant Casa Pinet will close its doors after the owners were unable to reach an agreement with the town hall.

A staple for Spanish republicans, the venue contains numerous pieces of paraphernalia and tasty paella which made it a must-see when visiting or passing through the town.

Being located in the same building as the town hall, once the rent agree- ment came to an end, negotiations on a new deal stalled.

The restaurant owners were willing to pay more rent, but were not happy with the four-year deal they were offered, demanding eight years instead.

The town hall did not grant them the extended contract, and both sides seemed destined to engage in a legal battle.

However, the restaurant owners decided to announce they would leave the premises before the situation worsened, and will therefore open the doors of Casa Pinet in Tárbena for the last time on April 18.

Jeroni, son of the original restaurant founder, explained that 'we just want to work and live peacefully, but also have a sense of security that the town hall was not offering us with the four-year deal'.

The family also announced plans to reopen the restaurant in Alcalalí once the dust settles, starting a new chapter for the last republican Valencia region stronghold.
