ITV’s Chris Choi reporting… from Benidorm

- By Irena Bodnarec

Chris Choi, Consumer Editor for ITN News, was in Benidorm this week shooting the ITV Tonight series special on ‘Staying Safe on Holiday’.

‘STAYING Safe on Holiday’ is the key message which Chris Choi, Consumer Editor for ITN News, is focusing on for the ITV Tonight series.

A small crew accompanied him and spent two days filming in Benidorm, arriving on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday morning, Chris spoke with Sarah-Jane Morris, the British Consul in Alicante, who reinforced the key messages of how to enjoy a trouble-free holiday and emphasised the importance of making an official report to the police at the SATE office (Foreign Tourist Assistance Office) if you are the unfortunate victim of crime during your stay .

crew then spent some time with the National Police and finished the day up at the iconic Mirador, creating a splendid backdrop for an interview with local British expat Karen Maling-Cowles, who liaises closely with both the consulate and police on what scams and cons holidaymakers need to be aware of here.

On Thursday, they visited the SATE office, located at the end of the Levante beach, and spoke with the police there, even managing to catch some holidaymakers who came to make a report. Chris also met with Juan Bautista Alonso from the National Police to ask what tourists can do to avoid being targeted and how to stay safe.

The programme is by no means meant to portray Beni- dorm in a negative light and the crew had also visited Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, to include it in the investigative report.

This episode will be aired on ITV on Thursday, June 22.
