Happy New Year as Teulada/Moraira residents get IBI reduction

- News Staff Reporter

THE MAYOR of Teulada-Moraira, Carlos Linares, announced last week that, due to the healthy financial situation of town hall funds, residents will benefit from a reduction in IBI rates in 2018.

He confirmed that Teulada-Moraira no longer has commitments with bank creditors, and he now plans to invest in the quality of life of his citizens.

“Given the good economic situation, it is time to help residents,” said Linares. He did not disclose the percentage drop, as this will be decided shortly.

Teulada-Moraira closed the year with a surplus of €6.5 million in town hall funds. But, as Linares emphasised, he regretted not being able to reinvest it in the town, as the council must follow strict spending guidelines.

“The regulations limit spending in certain areas, even though we have a surplus of funds. But it does not permit us to invest in everything we want. We can tidy our accounts, and are allowed to spend it on financially sustainable investments,” he said.

Regarding the investments, €4.5 million is being set aside to include the improvement of sporting facilities, such as a new municipal pool. Other projects earmarked are the widening of the CV-743 between Teulada and Moraira, and a new social centre.

All of these projects are due to be completed in 2018.
