Victim left unconsciou­s in the street

A 19-year-old British youth has been arrested in Los Alcázares for the attempted murder of a man on June 16.

A 19-YEAR-old British youth has been arrested in Los Alcázares by the Guardia Civil for the attempted murder of a man on June 16.

According to the Guardia Civil, the young Briton had been seen pubbing in the area of Los Narejos with the victim, who was found the following morning unconsciou­s, on the pavement of Avenida Radio Baliza Óscar, by a trader from the weekly street market.

The victim had serious head injuries and was taken to Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital in Murcia.

One of the market stallholde­rs told the Guardia Civil that he saw the suspect rummaging through the pockets of the man while he was on the floor.

He took pictures of the youth with his mobile phone while another trader phoned the emergency services.

The Briton noticed that he was being photograph­ed and approached the stallholde­r in an aggressive manner.

According to witnesses, the youth tried to hit then man, but he was stopped by other market traders and fled the area.

The Guardia Civil said the pictures had been crucial in identifyin­g the suspect.

However, he had not been arrested immediatel­y because he had gone into hiding.

The Briton has been charged with attempted murder and leaving a victim unattended with serious injuries.
