18-year-old Cuban arrested for the attempted murder

Guardia Civil officers in Altea have arrested an 18-year-old man of Cuban nationality for the attempted murder of a child.

Last Wednesday, police were called to Altea's health centre, where a 13-year-old was being treated for two serious stab wounds. The boy was able to explain to the officers that he had cycled to his home in Altea's Cap Negret and was stabbed twice in the neck as he was putting his bicycle in the store room.

Because of the severity of the injuries, one being only millimetres from an artery, the boy was taken to Villajoyosa hospital, where he under went surgery.

Guardia Civil officers immediately set up an operation to identify and detain the assailant; carrying out a search near the boy's home, where they located and arrested a man on a piece of land next to where the attack took place. Nearby they found the assailant's weapon, which turned out to be a modified cutter, as well as a mask and glasses worn in an attempt to disguise his identity.

All this was deemed sufficient proof to arrest him for attempted murder, resulting in serious injuries.

The suspect appeared in front of a Benidorm judge who sent him to prison without bail, pending his trial.

The young victim is now out of danger and was allowed to return home the day after his operation.
