Antiques are going to the dogs!

- By Jack Troughton

Animal charity AKIRA is to benefit from the autumn edition of the antiques fair at the Salon Canor in Teulada on Friday October 12 in recognition of doing a “fantastic job”.

Charity volunteers raced to the rescue recently as fire threatened the shelter on La Pedrera industrial estate in Benissa – ensuring none of the dogs unduly suffered in the emergency.

And as a result of their dedication, Sue and Paul Horey, organisers of the Antiques, Vintage, Retro and Collectors Fair – both animal lovers – decided AKIRA would benefit from the event.

“The volunteers do such a fantastic job,” said Sue. “They were up there on the night of the fire beating out flames at the back of the kennels, helping make sure the flames did not spread.

“One of the team actually slept in a kennel with one of the older dogs because it was in such a state; others took blankets and sheets to place over kennels to save the dogs from the effects of smoke.

“We took up some treats – for the humans rather than the dogs, the animals have plenty of food up there.”

The October 12 fair is “an absolute sell out” said Sue, with more than 70 people selling and providing a show for anyone interested in casting an eye over – or even buying – products of yesteryear.

Entrance to the fair is free, it is open from 0900 to 1500, there is ample parking at the Salon Canor in Calle Assagador, Teulada, and drinks and refreshments are available.
