Bikes fill the streets of La Nucia
Last Sunday, September 30, the town of La Nucia filled up with over 300 cyclists of all ages in celebration of the 7th Bicycle Day’ – a day intended to avoid the use of cars and create a no fumes day.
This day is free to take part and is open to all ages with the aim of getting as many people as possible to participate and ride through the streets of La Nucia – a non-competitive circuit.
The day was organised as part of the '2018 European Mobility Week', encouraging the use of environmentally friendly transport like the bicycle.
Together with the sports council of La Nucia and La Nucia Cycle Club, many local businesses collaborated to make the event a success.
The more than 300 cyclists were able to pedal through the town as a family on a day blessed with sunshine and of course without cars and contaminating fumes.
The start and finish of the route was the Auditori de Les Nits where an arch marking the start and finishing line was set up. Bouncy castles were also on site for the little ones to enjoy on this day intended for families to enjoy.
At 10.45 am riders set off on the 2km circuit through the old town and afterwards a bike gymkhana was organised for the younger kids aged 3-12 years, where they demonstrated their skills dodging obstacles. All children were awarded a medal and a free entrance ticket to Terra Natura, one of the sponsors on the day.
This is the 5th consecutive year that la Nucia has organised an event in recognition of the European campaign 'Now We Move Week' which intends to encourage sports for everyone at all social levels with the objective being to promote physical activity and get 100 million Europeans active by 2020.
