U3A Moraira Teulada Golf Society
On the November 13, U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada played one of their regular games at El Saler, the championship course on the coast, south of Valencia. Our group consisted of 20 players to tackle this very challenging course, which consists of two distinct types of surface – parkland and links. Also unique for this part of Spain the clubhouse is a Paradox with spectacular views of the course. Unfortunately, the prices for drink and food reflect the fact that it is a hotel, €2.50 for a coffee is outrageous! For our group the amount of travel (1 hour 20 minutes) is about the maximum, particularly when the actual journey is not the easiest. As usual, we had to wait for everybody to arrive but finally we all made it before the first flight. It’s not a cheap course to play at, particularly for those who need buggies, but the layout is really superb with holes offering many different views and challenges.
We had our usual introduction reminding players to keep up with the group in front and then explaining the format for the day. On this occasion, an Individual Stableford and a sweepstake for the estimated number of balls lost. The forecast for the day was a possibility of rain with some moderate wind. In the event we were lucky as the wet gear was not required and the wind was light, apart from the holes alongside the coast. Keep to the fairway and you have a chance for a reasonable score but the rough is punishing.

To play for the society you first need to be a member of the U3A Moraira/Teulada which meets on the first Monday of every month at the Salóns G.L, Avenida del Mediterráneo 32, Teulada at 10.30, except July and August. All new members welcome whatever your standard of golf.
