- By Nuria Pérez nperez@cbnews.es

A TOTAL of 29 proposals submitted by residents and local associations from Orihuela Costa can be voted on via the council’s website until Monday (November 26).

In order to cast a vote, residents have to be aged over 16 and on the municipal register (padrón).

They can vote for a maximum of three different projects.

These include ‘proper’ bus stops; public toilets in the busiest areas; launching a water sports academy at Campoamor yacht club; opening a branch of the council’s employment and local development department; improving the narrow road to Playa Flamenca secondary school and building a playground and park on nearby land; new street signposts and zebra crossings; new sports areas at PAU-26 and PAU-8; new tiles for the town hall square at Playa Flamenca; street and pavement repair works; creating a music school; creating new feral cat colonies; a leisure, sports and cultural programme for children and adults in Orihuela Costa; repairing the wall at Punta Prima beach; improving the services of the social services office; repairing the steps down to La Glea beach; and new bins, benches and lampposts.

The federation of residents’ associations for Orihuela Costa (FAOC) stressed that 54% of the proposals submitted by residents and associations have been rejected by the council and cannot be voted on.

Some of the proposals were rejected because ‘the council has planned the schemes already’, they exceed the €60,000 budget limit, or they are included in the contract for street and parks maintenance which is about to be contracted out.

Residents can cast their vote at orihuela.governalia .es/propuestas
