Eddie's Final Whistle

- By Eddie Cagigao

2B Division, Group 3 Match day 13, November 18 UE Olot 1 – 1 CD Castellon

The draw specialists this season, CD Castellon, did it again at the weekend and took a share of the points – for the 10th time this season (from 13 matches) – following this 1 – 1 draw away in Olot. This draw means that CD Castellon are the only side in the top three divisions in Spain (La Liga, 2nd and 2B) not to have won a single league game all season. The draw keeps Castellon at the very foot of the league table with 10 points. CD Alcoyano 1 – 0 Hercules CF

Hercules slip down to fourth position after suffering their third defeat of the season in their local derby fixture in Alcoy against local side CD Alcoyano, who took all the points with this narrow 1-0 win. This was also the first away defeat for Hercules.

The only goal of the game came in the 28th minute when a corner was poorly defended by Hercules and the ball fell to Tomas Ruso inside the penalty area who smashed the lose ball home for the only goal of the game.

This win means that Alcoyano are in 13th position with 16 points whilst Hercules are knocked off the top of the group and are in fourth position, although level on points with Lleida and Atletico Baleares, all on 24 points. CF Peralada P – P Valencia CF Mestalla

This match was called off after the referee inspected the pitch and found it to be un-playable due to the heavy rains in the area. UB Conquense 2 – 0 Atletico Levante UD

Atletico Levante fell to their fifth defeat of the season after this reverse in Cuenca at the hands of the local side, UB Conquense. After an even first 45 minutes, the home side deservedly scored twice in the second period to take all three points.

The result leaves both sides in that group of six teams all on 16 points. Ontinyent CF 0 – 2 CD Ebro

Ontinyent went down to their fifth defeat of the season as CD Ebro, bottom of the division before this game, comfortably took all the points after this 0-2 win, their second victory of the season.

This defeat leaves Ontinyent in 14th position with 16 points. They are in a group of six teams who all have 16 points. CD Ebro move up two places to 18th position with 12 points from their 13 matches played. Villarreal CF “B” 3 – 1 RCD Español “B”

Villarreal “B” are two points clear at the top of the Group after last weekends´ matches and their comfortable 3-1 home win against another of the La Liga reserve sides, RCD Español from Barcelona.

The match was all over as a contest after 47 minutes. By then, the home side had taken a 3-0 lead and although the visitors did pull one back in the 74th minute, the result was all over by them.

Villarreal are top with 26 points, two points above Lleida (who drew in an eight goal thriller away at SD Ejea), Atletico Baleares and Hercules CF who are all on 24 points. Non Valencia based clubs: FC Barcelona “B” 2 – 1 UE Cornella

Behind the top two sides are three clubs, Orihuela, Eldense and Crevillente, who are all level on 24 points with Atzeneta and Jove Español in 6th and 7th position, both with 23 points.

At the wrong end of the table, Torre Levante are still in 20th position (last place) with just 7 points after their latest defeat away at Vilamarxant. Paiporta are in 19th place with 9 points whilst Paterna have 10 points and are third from bottom.

It must also be mentioned that the game between Alzira and Rayo Ibense was postponed due to the heavy rain in the area and the pitch being flooded. Match day 13, November 18 CD Roda 0 – 2 Silla CF

The top two in this group, Almazora and CD Onda were both held to draws at the weekend. However, Almazora stay top with 25 points and CD Onda are in second position with 24 points. The only side to win from the top three were UD Puzol who, after their 2-4 away win at Sant Jordi, are in third position with 23 points. Just below the top three are CF Nules with 20 points with Cabanes and Benicarlo both one point behind them on 19 points.

At the bottom end of the table, CF Borriol are still to register a victory all season. They were beaten again this week so stay bottom of the table with a single point. Alqueries are one place of the bottom with six points to their name after another defeat at the weekend. Sant Jordi and Club Almenara are also in the relegation places with both clubs on ten points.

The match between Burriana and Benicarlo was postponed due to the heavy rain in the area over the weekend. Match day 12 – November 18 CD Cabanes 0 – 0 CD Onda UD Vall de Uxo 3 – 0 CF Rafalafena Castellon

CD Utiel are top of the group with 26 points with Recambios Colon in second position on 24 points, the same points tally as Ribarroja and Torrent who occupy the 3rd and 4th positions. Utiel and Recambios are still unbeaten as are SC Requena who are down in 6th position with 20 points. It must also be said that Recambios Colon have played two matches less than most of their rivals.

Looking down the league table in this group, we can see that CD Serranos, promoted at the end of last season, look to be heading back in that direction. They have played 10 matches and lost every one of them leaving them stranded and looking certs for relegation at the bottom of the table. One place above them, in 17th position, are Castellar-Oliveral with seven points whilst Juventud Barrio Cristo are in 16th position with eight points to show for their 12 matches played. There is just one point separating the top three sides in this group. UD Castellonense and CF UE Tavernes are in joint top positions with 26 points to their names, although Tavernes have played one game less (11) at this stage of the season. The final Play Off position is currently occupied by CD Denia who have 25 points from their 12 matches played. But the fight for a top three place looks like being a hard fought affair with CD Javea, Enguera and Beniganim all chasing the top three very hard.

It is looking to be just as tough at the bottom of the table. The two bottom sides, Racing Rafelcofer and CF UE Gandia are both level with seven points from their 12 matches played. Above them are three sides who are all level on nine points although they have all played 11 matches this season. Match day 12 – November 18 Rac. The off the field story in this group concerns CD Torrevieja who have now been deducted six points from the two matches they won recently, against Aspe and Hercules, for playing and over aged played (over 23) who was registered to their reserve side and not for the 1st team. This reflects on their league position (14th and in just out of the relegation places on goal difference) but more importantly on those clubs they beat who have now been awarded the points.

At the top of the table we still have Intercity San Juan. They won again last weekend and now have 28 points with just one defeat all season. In second place, thanks to those three awarded points (see above), are Hercules CF “B” with 25 points. In the final Play Off place we have CD Almoradi, who are having a really good season, with 22 points whilst one place below them are Independiente Alicante on 21 points.

Three of the top four in this group were the pre-season favourites for a Play Off place at the end of the season, but there is still a very long way to go.

At the bottom of the table, Villena are in 18th position with 6 points. In 17th position are Benidorm CD, a club who many expected to do far better than they are currently doing. They have just 6 points but have played a game less than Villena. The final relegation position is currently in a three way tie. Aspe, Benferri and CD Torrevieja all have 10 points.
