Jávea hopes for future perfect

Residents invited to comment on the new town plan on display until February

- By Jack Troughton

A VISION of the future for the popular Marina Alta resort of Jávea has gone on display inviting comments from the residents of the town.

The new and amended general plan will be on show in the Casa de Cultura until February 21, inviting a response from interested parties.

Town councillors will also be staging public meetings in the port today (January 25), at the Arenal on January 29, and in the old town on January 29.

It encompasses future planning; first envisaged in 2005 and a succession of public meeting, workshops and internet surveys ever since – the final consultation programme began in June last year.

The local authority believes it was one of the largest public consultations ever undertaken and all three centres of Jávea – the old town, port and Arenal – were addressed as a result; while all registered associations were also invited to take part.

Mayor Jose Chulvi believes the plan will allow 'Jávea to continue to be Jávea' while ensuring urban planning concen- trated on areas already developed to protect the environment, to rationalise service and 'avoid speculation'.

He said development should be on the scale of the community’s needs to maintain the 'quality of life' and the factors that made Jávea 'unique'.
