Pepe Carvalho returns
PEPE Carvalho is a fictional detective and gastronome brought to life through the works of the author Vázquez Montalbán.
In total Montalbán wrote and published 13 Carvalho novels.
An exhibition at Elche museum of contemporary art (MACE) features works by 40 artists, all of whom give their own interpretation of the detective.
The intersection of art and culture is a well-known and in the case of the exhibition contemporary art and literature become intertwined in this collective show.
Some of the works on display form part of MACE’s permanent collection.
Simply entitled Pepe Carvalho, the exhibition curated by Gabriel Serrano has been on display at the Cervantes institute, the Frankfurt book fair, Munich, Toulouse, Barcelona and Gijón.
The last Carvalho novel, Milenio Carvalho, was released in 2004 posthumously as Montalbán died on 2003, however another acclaimed Spanish author Carlos Zanon has just resurrected the character with the recent release on a new Carvalho adventure entitled Problemas de Identidad (problems of identity).
The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00-14.00 and 15.00-18.00 and on Sundays in the morning only. It is closed on Mondays.
MACE is situated at Plaza del Raval, Elche.
General admission is €2.
