Eddie's Final Whistle
2B Division, Group 3
In what turned out to be an amazing weekend for this group, only one of the top six sides managed to take all three points from their matches. The league leaders, Villarreal B lost away at Hercules, a side that up to this game, had looked as if they were heading down to mid table obscurity. But their defeat of the leader’s puts them right back in the hunt for a top four finish. Villarreal stay top with 41 points and they are still four points above second placed Lleida after the Catalan side were also beaten, 2-3 at home by Español. Lleida stay on 37 points as the two sides just below them, Cornella and Atletico Baleares, also failed to win their respective matches, both drawing, so stay in joint 3rd position on 36 points. Hercules CF took full advantage of their victory and the other teams slipping up as they climb back into contention. They are in 5th position with 35 points and just one point outside the Play Off places.
Away from the top of the division, we can see that our local sides had, in general, a poor weekend. CD Alcoyano gained a point holding Atletico Baleares to a goalless draw and are in 13th position with 24 points. Atletico Levante stay one place and one point behind Alcoyano after they managed to hold a strong UE Cornella side to a goalless draw which, looking at their opponents form of late, was an excellent result.
Looking even further down the table, to 16th position, we come across Ontinyent CF who travelled to Castellon at the weekend and suffered their 9th defeat of the season. The win for Castellon was much needed. They have had a terrible first season back at this level but appear to have, at the third attempt, found the right man to take over as manager. Ontinyent now have 22 points after they went down 2-0 at Castellon. But Castellon move up to 17th position and are now on 21 points, still in the relegation zone but in a far more positive mood than they were before the Christmas break. Our final local side is Valencia CF Mestalla who are the reserve side of the La Liga side, Valencia CF. They too have had a difficult season so far and have been in or close to the relegation zone for much of the season. They had a good chance to put some more points on the boar at the weekend as they entertained the groups´ bottom side, CD Teruel. However, things did not go to plan and they could only manage a draw having to come from behind to equalise. Valencia Mestalla are in 18th position
with 21 points.
The truth is that both at the top as well as the bottom of this group, things are very even. There are just 5 points separating the bottom placed side (CD Teruel in 20th position) with CF Peralada in 12th place and on 24 points. Match day January 21 – 20 Atletico Levante UD 0 – 0 UE Cornella

3rd Division
All change at the top of this group after the weekend matches. League leaders, Olimpic Xativa, were beaten at Orihuela and so are knocked off the top and, in doing so; breathe new life into their Play Off chances of Orihuela. La Nucia now take over as top side in the group with 42 points following their 5-2 win at the weekend. Orihuela CF take over the second spot as they go up to 41 points, the same points tally as Atletico Saguntino following their narrow win over Paterna. Olimpic Xativa drop down to 4th place and are now on 40 points. These top four clubs, with Eldense in fifth position, likely to be the ones fighting it out for the Play Off places.
There is also a fierce battle at the bottom end of the table. Paiporta CF look certain to be relegated unless they can put together a good run of results. They are in last position (20th) with 11 points. Paterna CF are one place above them with 15 points with Torre Levante, on 17 points, in the final relegation position. However, even those teams just above the relegation zone are too close for comfort with Novelda on 19 points, Elche Ilicitano (after their excellent win against Villarreal “C”) on 21 points and CD Acero (in 15th position) but with only 22 points. Regional Preferente Groups
Group 1 UD Puzol slipped up at the weekend and lost 0-3 at home to CD LA´ lcora who are in 12th position. Despite the defeat, Puzol had enough points on the board to ensure they remain top of the division with 41 points. However, their lead has been cut to four points by second placed CD Onda who won their match. CD Onda are on 37 points with four clubs fighting it out in joint third position, CD Almazora, CD Cabanes, CF Nules and CD Benicarlo all have 34 points with CD Burriana in seventh position with one point less.
CF Borriol are all but relegated. They suffered their 18th defeat from their 19 matches played to date and are at the bottom of the division with just ONE point. One place above them in 17th place are Sant Jordi who have 10 points and lost again at the weekend despite adding new players to their squad, in an effort to avoid relegation. Alqueries CF are in 16th position with 11 points and six points behind the side above them. Match day January 19 – 20 CD Cabanes 1 – 1 CD Burriana CF Nules 0 – 0 Club Almenara Atletic

CF San Pedro – Alqueries CF Group 2 Recambios Colon Catarroja stay at the top for another week and are still the only unbeaten side in the group. They have a six point advantage over second placed Ribarroja after both sides won their away matches at the weekend. The leaders, Recambios Colon, have 49 points with Ribarroja on 43 points. The final Play Off place is currently held by CD Utiel who have 38 points after their latest win. Torrent CF, with 36 points, appear to be the only other challenger for a top three finish in this group as San Marcelino, who are in fifth position, are seven points behind Torrent and nine points outside the top three places, surely too many points to make up at this stage of the season. Looking at the relegation zone, we can see that CD Serranos, despite putting in some much improved performances over the past few matches, are still stuck to the bottom of the division as they have been for the whole season. They have eight points from their 19 matches played. Above Serranos there is an almighty dog fight to escape the drop with three clubs all on 12 points. Juventud Barrio Cristo, Mislata CF and UD Castellar-Oliveral know that only one of these three clubs will avoid the drop. Match day January 19 – 20 Alcasser CF 4 – 0 Discobolo-La Torre AC

Castellonense stay top of the group on 40 points whilst Tavernes stay in second place with 37 points. In joint third position, both on 36 points, are CD Denia and UD Beniganim who both also won at the weekend. Muro CF, in sixth position, hit Portuarios for 6 at the weekend and are now on35 points with CD Javea, in seventh position with 34 points they only other side that looks able to make a concerted challenge for a top three place.
CF UE Gandia are still at the foot of this group with 11 points. One place above them are CD Monte-Sion with 17 points with two sides – UD Portuarios and CD Contestano – fighting it out to climb out of the final relegation position. Match day January 19 – 20 LO´ lleria CF 0 – 4 Racing Rafelcofer CF

After this latest victory against Aspe UD, Intercity are now NINE points clear at the top of the league. They have 49 points and are followed by Hercules B who move up into second place. Hercules have 40 points. CD Almoradi are in third position with 39 points following their 0-5 demolition of the groups bottom club, Villena CF. Independiente Alicante are in fourth position, one place outside of the end of season Play Off matches. This week they again won their home match comfortable and have 37 points with both Villajoyosa and Elda Industrial in joint fifth position and both clubs on 36 points. At the other end of the table, things are looking grim for Villena. They have amassed just 7 points this season and are in 18th position and TEN points behind the first safety position. One place off the bottom of the group, 17th position, are CD Torrevieja who suffered another heavy defeat this week as they went down 0-3 at home against Villajoyosa. CD Torrevieja have 15 points, the same points total as 16th placed side, Benidorm CD who got a point away at Callosa. The first safety place (15th) is occupied by Aspe UD with 17 points.
