Teulada-Moraira Fishing Club

-

On Wednesday, January 16 we fished the 17th match of our winter league, on section B1 of the Rio Jucar. The draw can be very important during the winter months as this section is situated on a bend in the river and some pegs receive the winter sunshine and others do not. Whilst this does not necessarily affect the fishing, it does affect the comfort of the anglers!

When we arrived at the river it was only eight degrees but the sun was shining and there was almost no breeze. There were one or two fish showing on the surface and hopes were high for a good day.

Nine members had assembled for the draw held at 8.45 am. The match began at 9.40 am. It was a slow start and after half an hour only Jacquues Janssen had successfully landed a fish. Matters then improved somewhat and several more fish were landed in the second half hour, mostly from the far bank. At the mid point of the match only Frank Povey was catching with any consistency, having landed seven fish. Everyone else was struggling with one or two, with some failing to register a single bite.

During the latter stages of the match Graham Sewell had a very productive half hour, landing four fish from five casts, all of which were good fish. However, the catch of the day went to Michael Owen who, though he only landed a single fish, it was a magnificent carp of 6.375 kilos! The results were as follows; 1st Graham Sewell (Sooty) Peg 7 (B1/18) 6 fish 16.225 kg

2nd Frank Povey (The Poacher) Peg 1 (B1/1) 9 fish 11.125 kg

3rd Michael Owen (Micky Drip) Peg 9 (B2/1)1fish 6.375 kg

4th Jason Lawson (Arrows) Peg 2 (B1/4)3 fish 5.200 kg

5th Jacques Janssen (Special Corn) Peg 4 (B1/10)2 fish 3.725 kg

6th George Savell, 7th Vic Wills, two members failed to catch.

In total, 24 carp were caught for a total weight of 48.225 kilos.

We are a very friendly club and are always happy to welcome new members. Anyone without match fishing experience will be given assistance and advice from our more experienced members.
