- By Shelley Liddell

A RUSSIAN resident in Benidorm is currently under investigation by the National Police for shooting and killing one of his neighbour’s cats and severely injuring another one.

The accused stated that he had a long running feud with his Dutch neighbour as his cats were constantly in his house.

The 41-year-old Dutchman, accompanied by members of an animal rights association, reported him to the National Police after finding one of his cats dead. The cats’ owner told police that on January 11, that when he went home he found one of his cats dying in a pool of blood on an armchair and the other one had a severe eye injury.

He immediately suspected it could have been his neighbour, with whom he had regular arguments about the cats.

He said that he used to complain that the cats were on his property, and many a time he had threatened to kill them. The Dutchman also told police that he was afraid for his own life, as the Russian had also threatened him.

After receiving the report, National Police began to investigate, and on searching the Russian’s home, they found an air rifle.

The accused refused to declare at the police station, and was released pending court proceedings.

The feud between the two neighbours began many months ago, and originated with the Russian accusing the Dutchman of occupying part of his land. Then he went on to complain about the cats.
