Gifted local violinist is one to watch
A YOUNG woman from Benissa is taking small steps towards international prominence with her violin playing talent. Catherine Zerrath, who is German, but was raised in the town, continues to evolve in the musical field. She has made several appearances at international events during her time with the Young Orchestra of the Province of Alicante (OJPA), a group widely awarded for their performances.
With three years of involvement in the OJPA, Zerrath performs her role in the prestigious orchestra as the first violin, second stand. As a professional, Zerrath has already visited Vienna three times to participate in festivals in which the OJPA has won the first international prize for symphony orchestras, with an award of excellence on two occasions.
The orchestra has also recently played in front of King Felipe during an event in Valencia.
Zerrath is currently in her second year of high school at the Josep Iborra Institute in Benissa and studies four languages, which is an added value to the development of her emerging professional career. Uncannily, she also looks remarkably similar to another superb talent, Vanessa Mae. She encourages young people to integrate in the exciting world of music, where they can discover experiences which allows them to see untold places and people surrounded by music, which is, without a doubt, her great passion.
The OJPA, currently directed by Franco Maestre, is one of the most prestigious young international orchestras, and the opportunity to see them perform should not be missed.
