Thanking civil protection volunteers

HARD WORKING civil protection volunteers in Benitachel­l have been thanked for their efforts in 2018 by the mayor, Miguel Ángel García.

During August and September, they continued with their prevention measures against forest fires, and tended to 2,128 kilometres of land which required risk protection.

They concentrat­ed around the Puig Llorença, at the top of the Cumbre del Sol, and spent a total of 343 hours monitoring the area for signs of danger. For the costs involved with fuel and equipment, they were granted €5,250 from the ministry of agricultur­e, environmen­t, climate change and rural developmen­t.

“In 2018, the organisati­on carried out total of 1,211 hours between the 21 currently serving volunteers. A total of 420 hours were spent, 73 more than in 2017. They made a total of 26 services to residents during public holidays.

They participat­ed in four preventati­ve actions for meteorolog­ical warnings, four other ser2009, vices in collaborat­ion with other groups of civil protection of the Marina Alta. As well as nine fires, the volunteers attended landslides, rescues and, finally, training sessions.

Since the Benitachel­l section was formed in December the varied tasks of the volunteers are well known and appreciate­d by all residents.” Said Vicente Bolufer, the chief of civil protection for Benitachel­l, as he presented the annual report.

“From the town hall we want to thank once again the excellent work that civil protection carries out in our town. We will never tire of recognisin­g your dedication to the community. They are a social example of selflessne­ss, idealism and bravery” said Garcia.
