Community supports its ambulance service

- By Jack Troughton

Clubs and associations in Teulada Moraira play a crucial part in maintaining the area’s ambulance service run by dedicated volunteers.

The municipality’s Civil Protection mounts a roundthe-clock watch all year and the service depends on both the backing of the town hall and the community.

Councillor Nacim Benatsou, responsible for the volunteer service, attended the first meeting of 2019 of the Marina Alta Costa Blanca Floral Club in Moraira to be presented with a cheque for €350.

The money was raised through sales of raffle tickets for the club’s annual Christmas draw.

He said the current ambulance was about to be retired and a new vehicle purchased for an emergency service that benefited all residents.

“We have more than 50 volunteers working for Civil Protection and thanks to them we have an ambulance service for Teulada Moraira – it is able to work thanks to a grant from the town hall and associations like the Lions, Rotary, this club and the charity shop,” said the councillor.

“Even small donations help us because we need a lot of medical equipment; but the big objective this year is to buy a new ambulance; we hope to get it as soon as possible.

“Civil Protection in general has two big parts; the ambulance service which is available 24 hours every day, and working at cultural festivals organised by the town hall.”
