Explosive morning

British expat's delivery van catches fire in Alfaz del Pi

- By Irena Bodnarec

ONE local British expat had anything but a normal drive to work on Tuesday morning after her vehicle caught fire. Eve Lindsey runs Sparkles Cleaning Service and is known to her many customers as Mrs Sparkles.

As usual, she was driving through Alfaz del Pi at around 09.30, up to The Forum where many of her clients live, when she noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet as she parked up in the complex grounds.

Literally within minutes flames started shooting out and fire took hold. Eve told CBN “Juan and Abel from The Forum ran out immediately and tried to tackle it with fire extinguishers, but it was quickly evident that it was beyond their capabilities. The police and fire brigade, who arrived rapidly, were absolutely fantastic”.

Looking at the remains after the fire had been extinguished bought into perspective how lucky Eve had been.

The van looks to be a write off, with her equipment all damaged or melted from the ferocity and Eve is now waiting to hear from her insurers – fortunately as a commercial vehicle she was fully covered.

She was totally overwhelmed by the offers of help and use of cars from many friends and clients for which she is truly grateful.

“The residents at The Forum are like my second family” Eve said, having worked there for the last 10 years and were very concerned when they heard the sirens outside the complex.

Well it didn’t deter Eve and on Wednesday morning she was back out again with a smile on her face.
