Mayors take their bow
Current Calpe and Moraira mayors will not stand for reelection in May
TWO well-known Costa mayors in towns with large expat populations will not be standing for reelection in the May local elections.
Calpe mayor César Sánchez had already said several months ago he would not stand and this week, the electoral committee of the Partido Popular (PP) of Calpe announced that they have elected Ana Sala as their new candidate for the position of Mayor.
After an eight-year term of holding office as Mayor, César Sánchez is stepping aside to concentrate on his commitments to Alicante provincial council.
Now Sanchez has paved the way for Sala, she said she feels excited about the new challenge, and the new opportunity to maintain the welfare of citizens. The aspiring mayor is a woman very committed to her town. She began her career in 2011, and is currently in charge of the council’s departments for intelligent development of the territory, markets, water, employment, sports and housewives, besides being a spokesperson for the municipal group and president of the Partido Popular at the local level.
“I will continue to be available to my party, to continue improving the lives of our citizens. Being mayor of my town has been the best gift that God has given me in my political life. Calpe is my home and never I will forget the love and confidence that the residents have given me during these years.” said outgoing mayor, Sanchez.
Mayor shocks Teulada/Moraira
The current mayor of TeuladaMoraira, Carlos Linares, has communicated his decision not to repeat as candidate for mayor of Teulada-Moraira.
After what he called a ‘thoughtful decision’, he provided the following statement: “After almost four years of work at the helm of the government team in Teulada council, I will not repeat as a mayoral candidate in the upcoming local elections in May. This decision has been for strictly personal reasons. It has not been easy for me to take it, but I do it from the responsibility and the reflection, from the sincerity and the honesty, from the affection towards our town and convinced that it will be the best.”
Linares recalled that he has dedicated “four years in body and soul to an exciting task, that of working together with my colleagues, to improve our town always with the best of intentions”.
“I also want to express my deep gratitude to all citizens for all their support and their regard shown throughout these years, and of course, the Partido Popular for giving me the opportunity to live this stage, a stage of immense learning that I will always keep in my memory and also consider myself privileged to represent Teulada-Moraira with pride everywhere”. He added that those who have worked alongside him were “a generous team, humble and with great human value”.
Finally, Linares dedicated thanks to his family. “I cannot forget my respect for my family, for having trusted and believed that this public dedication was worthwhile and, consequently, for having allowed me to live it”.
Linares has been unwavering in his quest to improve all aspects of living in TeuladaMoraira, and putting the town on the tourism map. His successor will no doubt have large boots to fill, and he will be both missed and respected for his dedication to his constituents.
