Calpe agrees tax subsidies
CALPE COUNCIL has approved terms for individual grants to offset living expenses for pensioners, the disabled, and the long-term unemployed, amongst others who qualify. The purpose is to subsidise the annual IBI tax for people who suffer from a disadvantaged economic situation.
The aid will be a maximum of 75% of the amount paid of the IBI bill, with a limit of €400 per beneficiary. This amount will be increased by 10% in the case of people with disabilities, victims of gender violence or single-parent families.
The requirements to apply for this aid are that the recipient is registered in the house that is subject to the IBI, that the applicant is the owner of one house in Calpe and this is their habitual residence. They must also be registered with the taxation authorities and social security.
Now the bases for the grants have been approved, they will be subject to public consultation for a period of 30 days. If there are no objections, then the approval will come into force and the grants may be requested from April.
“It is a commitment of the government team to be on the side of the people who are affected by IBI payments, and we hope it gets under way as soon as possible”, said Mayor Cesar Sanchez.
Following the full council session to agree the grants, the spokesman of Compromís, Ximo Perles, said, "the proposal is correct, but it is necessary to deepen and review the cadastral values"". Juan Cañas of ‘Si can Calpe’ stated, "we would like to see more details on other measures such as rent subsidies," and finally, Santos Pastor of the PSPV-PSOE party stressed "'the measure falls short; we proposed a reduction of 5% of the IBI for all home owners".
