Benissa bus is back
Benibus will return for Easter
THE PUBLIC transport service introduced by Benissa town hall last year, known as the Benibus, will return to service temporarily in April, to coincide with the Easter holidays.
A service will also be provided for the town’s largest fiesta in honour of the Puríssima Xiqueta, from May 5 to May 26.
Specifically, from April 12 22, coverage will be given during the Holy Week dates, facilitating transportation at a time when a significant tourist influx is expected, also due to the activities of the 'Viu la Pasqua a Benissa' Easter programme.
In turn, and in the interest of improving the service, Benibus will return to its summer schedule providing a service between the town centre and coastal area from May 31 until September 29. Once the open-air swimming pool reopens at El Collao, the bus will also travel to this location.
Last year, more than 6,700 people used the Benibus during the months of July and August, a fact that proves both the requirement for and the popularity of the service.
It is also anticipated that a new stop will be created at the train station which lies two kilometres from the town centre once the tram service recommences. It is hoped by introducing this stop that more tourists will visit the town rather than avoiding a long walk. The service will connect to both the town centre and the beaches from this point.
“This public service was very well received in 2018 and should continue to grow in a sustainable manner”, explained Fernando López Corsi, councillor for tourism.
Benibus is operated by the Denibus company, which can be a little confusing for passengers. Although the service was free last year, the service will be chargeable this year in order to cover the running costs.
Fees will be announced in advance of the Easter schedule and timetable.
