Alicante's glorious gastronomy
Supporting the province's designation as the 2019 Mediterranean cuisine capital
ALICANTE province will once again be hosting one of the country’s principal culinary events this month.
The Alicante gastronomy fair and II Mediterranean lifestyle meeting takes place at the IFA exhibition hall in Elche from February 22 to 25.
Local municipalities, institutions, regulatory bodies, food producers, chefs and professionals in the gastronomic sector will all be attending the event.
At the presentation, the provincial deputy for the economy and institutional relations, Carlos Castillo and the deputy for promotion and development, Sebastián Cañadas said that it is aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and healthy eating based on products native to the province, from both the sea and land, as well as promoting the area and its culture through gastronomy.
The fair is one of the events organised to highlight Alicante’s designation as the 2019 Mediterranean gastronomy capital, and its designation, alongside Beirut, as a permanent seat of the Mediterranean gastronomy academy.
“The Costa Blanca will become the European capital of gastronomy for a few days, because we are a forward-looking territory in which cooking, science, sport and health connect with our lifestyle,” said Sr Castillo.
“Alicante is the rightful representative of the Mediterranean diet due to our products, competitiveness, professionals and privileged climate.”
Throughout the four days, exhibitors, town halls, and professionals from the sector will be promoting traditional and contemporary cuisine, providing information about the health benefits of different foods and introducing visitors to the world of gastronomic technology and research.
Additionally, the event features workshops, showcooking, food tastings, and complementary activities aimed at the general public.
Alicante gastronomy fair is open daily from 11.00-21.30, except on Sun- day, February 25, when it closes at 20.00.
