U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada

-

On February 12, U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada played their third game of the year at Villaitana Levante, the longer course at the Benidorm complex. This is usually a popular venue and it so it was on this occasion although we had only booked 20 places, all taken. The course was in its usual excellent condition with all tees, fairways, bunkers and greens in good order

As always, the greens proved to be very challenging for most and many three putts were recorded. It is amazing how many players can reach greens in 2/3 shots but take another three to reach that little hole!

The day was again fine with sun and light winds, just another perfect day complemented by beautiful views. We are exceedingly lucky to live in such an area. We had a mixture of walkers and those in buggies although with the current policy of the course not allowing buggies on the fairways, long walks were required for all. It can be difficult deciding which clubs to take to a position over 50 metres away and then still finding out the sand wedge has been left in the buggy. Generally, walkers/non-walkers were equally weary at the end of the round.

We had our usual introduction reminding players to keep up with the group in front and then explaining the format for the day. On this occasion, we played Individual stableford with two nearest the pins and a sweepstake for lost balls (not won and carried over until the next game). Our handicapping system seems to be working, as there were no scores above 36 points. This being considered a good score on any course

The results:

1st: 36 points, Appleton

2nd: 35 points, Robin Woods 3rd: 34 points, Elke Woods The Ladies prize would have been won by Elke Woods

Note, no undue cuts for family members winning prizes in the same competition!

Nearest the pins, winners were Peter Davis and Stuart Boud

Congratulations to all our winners.

Our next game is at La Sella on February 26, first tee 09.04 and then followed by the AGM (all members invited).

To play for the society you first need to be a member of the U3A Moraira/Teulada which meets on the first Monday of every month at the Salóns G.L, Avenida del Mediterráneo 32, Teulada at 10.30 except July and August. All new members welcome whatever you’re standard of golf. Martin
