Swimming pool moves closer

- By Jack Troughton jtroughton@cbnews.es

VALENCIAN architects Raizde3 have been awarded the contract to build Jávea’s long-awaited €3 million indoor swimming pool complex.

The town hall announced the move this week after a successful €80,555 tender by the professional company, which also shaved 15 days off the execution time together with other positive factors.

An indoor municipal pool has been top of the Marina Alta community’s wish list for many years but construction has been blocked for more than a decade by the regional government.

However, the project was reinstated at the end of 2017 when Mayor Jose Chulvi successfully petitioned the new government team in Valencia; requesting they recognise the long-standing agreement to invest in a swimming pool in return for the town hall financing the building of a trinquet court. Valencia has set aside the necessary funding.

Once the contract with Raizde3 is signed, the architects will have between one and two months to present the documentation required and to obtain environmental approval.

This will be reviewed by the town hall and submitted to Valencia for the regional authority to start the tender process for construction.

The pool will be situated at the rear of the existing sports complex in Jávea Port and the design will be based on sustainability, versatility, functionality, easy maintenance and accessibility.

The new complex will consist of a large 25m by 17m main pool, a smaller 17m by 10m pool for teaching children and adults to swim and for rehabilitation swimming; there will also be an activity room.
