Brown bins for Benissa
AN ORGANIC waste collection service has been introduced in Benissa. The public cleaning company, Benissa Impuls, started the initiative this week. Initially, it has been decided to implement the service in the catering sector, where the bars, restaurants or cafeterias located in the town centre can now dispose of the organic waste they generate in the kitchen, such as food remains and coffee grounds.
This new 'door-to-door' organic collection service involves the introduction of a so-called 'fifth container', which will be purely dedicated to organic waste and not be contaminated with other recycled waste such as glass or plastic.
To facilitate the collection service, Benissa Impuls has delivered a brown waste container to each establishment, which will be collected seven days a week from 06:00. Compostable bags have also been provided, which together with the container, will be placed outside their premises.
The initiative will increase the percentage of organic waste, whilst reducing the amount which gets disposed of in the Ecopark of Benissa.
This first phase of waste collection will then give way in the coming months to a collection service aimed at individuals, with the provision of specific containers for each household.
With the aim of encouraging as many people as possible to use the new service, campaigns will soon be carried out and leaflets will be distributed to inform residents of the advantages of processing their organic waste.
