Marina Alta Golf Society

-

On Monday April 15, the Marina Alta Golf Society played a singles stableford competition game at the Oliva Nova course. The game was their annual Memorial Day competition when 15 current members and two guests teed off into an increasing wind which brought the threat of rain which luckily held off for the duration of the game. After the game in the club house, the Capt. asked for a quiet moment of reflection to remember friends and golfing colleagues no longer with us. After this it was down to todays game and the winners were,

In 1st place the ladies took the honours with Donna Green winning on countback with 34 points off an 18 handicap. In second place also with 34 points was John Cunningham playing off a 22 handicap. Third place went to Phil Gardner (always saying “I can’t play this course it’s too hard “yet when he does play nearly always goes home with a prize) with 32 points off a 24 handicap while fourth place went to David Reid with 31 points off a 14 handicap, who when asked about his game said, “disappointing back nine should have got more than 11 points. “Dave don’t we all say that!

NTP saw Dave O’Meara pick up the prize on hole 3 and also the prize on hole 5 in two shots. Long been absent from the winners circle, is this a sign of things to come Dave! Denis McVeigh won on hole 16 while Donna Green collected her second prize on hole 18 in two shots.

There were no 2’s today. The Marina Alta Golf Society is a small but friendly group of players who play every Monday at the Oliva Nova course with first Tee time being about 10.40. If you want to join this friendly group of golfers as a guest then a warm welcome will be waiting for you.
