Computer Club

- By Victor Waldorff

Because of the Easter holidays, the club is closed on Saturday, 20 April. We meet again in the Sierra Bernia School Saturday, April 27. Doors are open from ten am, and talks and demonstrations begin at 10.30am.

Microsoft’s upgrade of Windows 10 last autumn, was plagued by annoying bugs and glitches, the firm has been more cautious with the spring upgrade this year. The Home version was planned to be ready for download in March, but is now expected to be available in late April or May.

At our meeting on April 13, John told about new additions to the operating system, among them the introduction of a virtual “Sandbox”. This does not contain a grain of real sand, it is programmers’ slang for an app that reserve a part of the PC’s memory, to enable adventurous users to test a program in the sandbox, without fearing that bad or risky coding in this program will be transferred to Windows 10 outside the sandbox. If the program tested is found risky, the user can erase the complete content of the sandbox safely.

If you want to find out more about the use of your PC, laptop or tablet, then visit one of our Saturday meetings, and se us at work. There are no obligations – if you dont` find it interesting we still part as friends. If you like, what you see, then join the club at your next visit.
