A taste of art for Javea U3A members

- Report and photo by Communications Officer Ian Rogerson

Javea U3A member Barbara Craven gave an intriguing insight into the subject of 'Food in Art' at the History Group meeting at Casa de Cultura in the old town.

She illustrated her talk with an array of artwork, some beautiful and some grotesque! But it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Barbara told her audience her presentation combined her passion for food and her love of art.

She traced artwork from early cave paintings through the pop art of the 1950s-60s to present day offerings by renowned artists like Antony Gormley and Damien Hirst … and finished her talk with the words "Art is life and so is food!"

Barbara was thanked by History Group leaders Angela Chantry and Tony Dearie and presented with a bottle of wine.

The next History Group meeting is on Tuesday, May 14 when former group leader Peter Atkinson will give a presentation entitled “Intersecting Lives: John F Kennedy and Lyndon B Johnson”

More than 60 U3A members enjoyed a 3-course meal at Amarre 152 in Javea’s Arenal at the latest Dining Out Group meeting, run by group leaders Mallory and Christine Glover.

The next Dining Out evening is at Los Amigos restaurant in Javea’s Arenal on Friday, May 17.

Before that, on Monday May 6, the Dine & Dance Group will meet at Benimaquia restaurant in La Xara, under the guidance of group leaders David and Anne Watts.
