Oktoberfest is back in Calpe

THE annual celebration of all things beer is back in Calpe with Oktoberfest and a 12-day party with a traditional German flavour.

The Marina Alta hosts one of the best known festivals in Spain and last year over 10,000 revellers enjoyed music, food and beer in a unique atmosphere; typical of a Munich beer garden.

The 2019 festival and its Bavarian feel runs from Wednesday October 2 until Sunday October 13 in a huge marquee next to the tennis club in Avenida Casanova.

Staged in Calpe since 1987, the party starts at 18.00 each night with music starting an hour later. The closing ‘nonstop’ party runs from 11.00 to 18.00.

On October 2, the official opening takes place at 20.00 when Calpe mayor Ana Sala is expected to symbolically tap a barrel; the 2018 festival queen bids farewell and the 2019 festival queen is crowned.

And in the midst of the eating and drinking, music plays a huge part in the fun; this year The Steinbergers are the stalwarts of Oktoberfest, given a helping hand by singer Denise and DJ One.

There is a large car park next to the venue and taxis are available. Tables can be reserved by calling 651 402 738 between 18.00 and 20.00.

Thursday, October 3: nonstop Oktoberfest with ‘Wiesn’ music and international hits with The Steinbergers, beer lifting competition.

Friday, October 4: Fun with The Steinbergers and Oktoberfest hits of the last 20 years with Denise.

Saturday, October 5: Fun with The Steinbergers and Oktoberfest Party with the band.

Sunday, October 6: 11.00 to 15.00 Bavarian ‘Frushopp’ with traditional music and Weisswurst food. Evening; Oktoberfest Night Fever Party with The Steinbergers.

Monday, October 7: International costumes evening with The Steinbergers; including the presentation of the three best costumes.

Tuesday, October 8: The Steinbergers play request, followed by Denise and a night of popular songs.

Wednesday, October 9: Oktoberfest hits of the last 20 years by The Steinbergers.

Thursday, October 10: Happy beer day; large beer is €3.50; with music from DJ One.

Friday, October 11: ‘Zicke Zicke Heu Heu Heu’ music with The Steinbergers.

Saturday, October 12: Oktoberfest with The Steinbergers; music of the 70s, 80s and 90s with Denise.

Sunday, October 13: Party non-stop from 11.00 to 18.00; all food offered at reduced prices and music from DJ One.
