Eddie's Final Whistle

- By Eddie Cagigao

2nd B Division, Group 3

Match day 5 –September 22 Hercules CF 1 – 3 Orihuela CF Orihuela, a club currently with their ground condemned due to the recent floods, forced to train last week at three different places (Crevillente, Rojales and Campoamor) as their training ground was under water, did their town proud as they travelled north to Alicante and heaped even more misery on a Hercules CF side who sacked their manager the previous week and came into this game still looking for their first win of the season.

The final result was certainly a fair reflection of what we saw although towards the end of the first half and the start of the second half, Hercules had the upper hand. However, the visitors were simply better up front and ran out worthy winners.

The result leaves Hercules joint bottom of the table with only one point from their five matches played and still looking for their first win of the season. Lets´ hope new manager Jesus Muñoz changes that soon.

Orihuela, after their first win of the season, move up to 16th in the league with four points. They are due to play a home game this coming weekend and it looks likely to be played at their Los Arcos ground, which took a real beating from the storm and subsequent flooding from the river Segura which runs right past the ground and burst its banks, although they will not be able to use the main stand which will need to be demolished or require hefty work before it can be opened again. Atletico Levante UD 1 – 0 UE Llagostera

Atletico Levante recorded their second win of the season in their home match against Catalan side, UE Llagostera. The win moves Levante up into 13th position in the league table, with six points from their four matches played. The only goal of the game arrived in 83rd minute by defender, Marco Joan.

The re-arranged away match against Orihuela, will now be played on Wednesday October 9.

Villarreal CF B 0 – 1 FC Barcelona B

First defeat of the season for Villarreal B against a very well drilled FC Barcelona B side in a game that could have gone either way, especially in the first 45 minutes. The second half was dominated by the home side but it was the visitors who, in the 77th minute, scored from a free kick which gave them all three points and knocked Villarreal off the top of the table for the first time this season.

They are replaced at the top by newly promoted side FC Andorra. Villarreal have 12 points from their five matches whilst Andorra are also on 12 points but have a slightly better goal difference.

For FC Barcelona B, this win was their second of the season and they go up to seventh position with eight points.

RCD Español B 0 – 0 CD Castellon

CD Castellon are in fifth position with nine points after this hard worked point away at Español “B” who are in 11th position with six points.

UE Olot 1 – 0 Valencia CF Mestalla

Second defeat of the season for the Valencia CF reserves, Mestalla, which leaves them still looking for the first win of the season. They are in 18th position with three points and are one of four clubs still looking for their first win of the season. CE Sabadell FC 1 – 0 CF La Nucia

La Nucia went down to their second defeat of the season after this away defeat in Sabadell, where the home side scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game, just before half time.

The defeat drops La Nucia down to joint sixth position with eight points and only two points outside the top four places.
