Aesthetic surgery
This one is the most in demand for women and men in Spain

Breast surgery for women, and gynaecomastia surgery for men, are the two most popular aesthetic interventions for the population.
Every year, over 18,000 patients in Spain undergo mammoplasty, followed far behind by liposuction, blepharoplasty or eyelid correction, rhinoplasty and abdominoplasty.
In light of this information, Doctor José Salvador, Head of the Plastic Surgery Service at Quirónsalud Alicante and Torrevieja, explains that, “The breast area is the one that can generate the most self-esteem conflicts, for men as well as for women.
In second place, we have protruding ear surgery for men, and eyelid surgery for both genders.”
While the goal of gynaecomastia surgery is to eliminate the increased mammary volume that often appears in males during their youth (due to hormonal problems) or as adults (due to excessive fat deposits on the mammary area), a mammoplasty seeks to increase the size of the breasts in women, whether it is a simple enlargement or due to a need to lift the breasts and remodel their shape after pregnancies and breastfeeding.
As for the age bracket that submits to the greatest amount of these interventions, the surgeon says that they are between eighteen and twenty-five years old, “though there is also a second peak in a more mature age bracket, between forty and fifty years of age.”
The increase in this type of intervention is due to body worship and the safety of the interventions. “Body worship, the need to look good, and the ease of going to clinics staffed with excellent plastic and aesthetic surgery professionals have led to steadily increasing demand for these surgeries, which will be more and more in demand,” clarifies the surgeon.
This excellence, as well as the incorporation of innovative technology performed by some hospital centres, has made Alicante one of the favourite destinations of patients from other countries for the performance of plastic and aesthetic surgical interventions. “The choice of Alicante is based on the fact that it is a well-known city in Europe, where plastic surgery with a high degree of professionality is available, and because its climate and attractive beaches create an opportunity to mix surgery with leisure,” according to Doctor Salvador.
